Avocado, (Persea americana), tree of the family Lauraceae and its edible fruit. Avocados are native to the Western Hemisphere from Mexico south to the Andean regions and are widely grown in warm climates. Avocado fruits have greenish or yellowish flesh with a buttery consistency and a rich nutty flavour. They are often eaten in salads, and in many parts of the world they are eaten as a dessert. Mashed avocado is the principal ingredient of guacamole, a characteristic condiment in Mexican cuisine. Avocados provide thiamine, riboflavin, and vitamin A, and in some varieties the flesh contains as much as 25 percent unsaturated oil.

Hass - are a very popular variety and produce a large avocado with a mid-green bumpy skin. They tend to be a heavy cropper and the fruit are deliciously creamy. The skin on a Hass avocado will darken into a deep brown as it ripens.
The Edranol variety makes a very good partner pollinator to grow with Hass.

Reed - Avocados are round with thick, smooth, dark green skin. They are a real favourite with customers with good reason as the fruit are large with a rich, buttery flavour.
